Sly Cooper is a raccoon who was orphaned at a young age when his parents were killed. His father was one of a long line of master thieves, while seen through all of time as criminals they made it the family creed to pretty much only stealing from other thieves. At the orphanage Sly meets his new family, his best friends Bentley the turtle and Murray the hippo. Sly decides to step in where his father left off and become the next of the great thieves of the Cooper family and enlists his new life long pals to be part of his new gang: Sly doing all the stealth, Bentley handling all the gadgets and tech, and Murray is the muscle… he also owns the van and is sort of the only one who knows how to drive a stick shift.
Each game in the series will pit the three friends against villainous organizations of criminals with nasty plans to exploit people or seize control of the world. They figure these criminals the perfect targets to steal from and they can manage to actual do some good by shutting down their operations in the process. Sly and his pals however are still seen as criminals in the eye of the law so they will also be constantly on the run from the forces of Interpol, especially Inspector Carmelita Fox who would just love to see the three of them behind bars.
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus
In the first game of the series it is up to Sly and his friends to defeat the evil Clockwerk and his gang. Clockwerk is an owl who has a deep hatred for the Cooper family and this deep hatred lead him to replace all the parts of his body with machinery to ensure he would live long enough to see the end of the Cooper family. He is also the one who killed Sly’s parents and stole a the Thievius Raccoonus, a book passed down from Cooper to Cooper filled with their family history.
Sly 2: Band of Thieves
After defeating Clockwerk Sly and his friends find out that while they did in fact defeat him, his parts are still intact. This means that if someone were to take all the parts and piece them back together again, Clockwerk could return. The gang can’t allow this to happen and quickly find out that the pieces of the evil bird are in the hands of a new evil gang of criminals, each using the different parts of Clockwerk for their own personal schemes. Its up to the gang to shut down each criminal’s scheme and recover each part of Clockwerk so they can be properly destroyed.
Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves
With Clockwerk gone and the Thievius Raccoonus safely back in Cooper hands, Sly is set to reclaim the Cooper family vault. The vault is located on an uncharted island and is defended by all sorts of security measures making it impossible for anyone other than a Cooper to enter it. The vault however is not the concern of Sly or pals, but rather the deranged scientist Dr. M. the mandrill. The doctor was at one point the partner of Sly’s father, but now he has claimed the island for himself and has spent years trying to find a way in. This job is too large for Sly, Bentley and Murray to handle on their own because the doctor has set up his own army of goons and traps of his own making to keep intruders from even reaching the vault. So before they can attempt to even approach the vault they will have to travel the world and recruit even more members to their gang.
Sly 4: Thieves in Time
The gang has spent some time apart from each other… Sly has decided to put his thief ways on the back burner, romancing Carmelita Fox instead of running from her, Murray has been dominating demolition derbies with his van, and Bentley has been keeping an eye on the Thievius Raccoonus so he can study the history of the Coopers. During Bentley’s studies however he discovers that right before his eyes the pages are starting to go blank as if the Coopers were being erased from history. Bentley quickly gathers his friends and shows them that he has invented a time machine that will allow them to travel back in time to visit each of the Coopers so they can keep the family history from being lost forever.
